There is no 'one size fits all' kind of a solution for implementing DevOps in an organisation. Also the tools used to manage the workflow change at a constant pace as new and better tools enter the market. Adding to this is the complexity of even implementing a simple DevOps pipeline. With this background, the design phase started with questioning the basics of DevOps practices via a design workshop. The entire product and engineering team was involved in the workshop.
One thing the product team was clear about is the solution is not going to be a quick one. It needs to evolve over a period of time. We needed to keep the explorations open and iterative with constant customer feedback. The project was on a perpetual discovery mode while delivering short term requirements of customers.
Design started with template based approach for user to quick start their CI/CD workflow. For expert users with custom requirements, a visual builder was proposed.
